Question about iDVD. . .
« on: March 21, 2012, 03:22:01 PM »
I'm trying to create a slide show in iDVD, and have got all the pics loaded, but for some reason, in the menu photo, there is a light gray "arrow" that kind of looks like it should have text in it, but I can't seem to get rid of it, and I can't find any mention of it in the "help" section. . .  Any ideas?  This is my first time working with it, so be gentle with me, folks, if this is a dumb question.  wallbash.gif

Can you give us a screen shot of that arrow thang with some accompanying area showing where it be?! No slide show needed, just a single shot using the built-in or numerous other screen capture utilities. smile.gif The image won't help me but it might some one else! blush-anim-cl.gif

Here ya go, Jim; the red arrow points to the problem.  I can't delete it, I can't drag it anyplace else. . . GRRRRRRR!

I'm guessing that the grey area is a place (holder) for some text. Perhaps the arrow is there until you type something in there. And maybe a single "space" character can be used if you don't really want any text in there. dntknw.gif Have you tried typing in that grey area? Or maybe you need to press the Delete key harder! As we used to say in the cockpit when the computer button didn't do what we wanted, "Push with intent!" laughhard.gif

Oh, my.  I guess no one can say you live a boring life. That's one heck of a job raising the house like that. I'm curious, just how do you go about digging in the new posts? By hand? I can't imagine how you could get machinery down to that location other than by barge. How deep do they go into the ground/sand?

Good guess, Kris; by hand, it is, and the depth that they are in is between 4 1/2-5'.  It is pretty hard, because the ground is NOT what you'd call "easy digging".  Lots of big rocks, and you run into hard clay, down anywhere from 1-3 feet, and since there are natural springs in the hill, the holes fill in with water, almost as fast as you dig, and the sides collapse, so we used to wind up with a hole 6 or 7 feet in diameter, to get down that deep.  Somewhere in the past 20 yrs., one of the guys here on The Beach came up with heavy duty "splitable" hole liners, and a pump run with water (simple concept, but I don't know how to describe it!) to draw the water out.  Much better, but still not what I'd call a pleasure!  Sure is nice to have that extra height; felt very secure this winter.  biggrin.gif

Thanks for the info.  I've dug a few fence posts holes with one of the clam style diggers but I knew you had to go deeper and wider for those poles.  And you had all that water to contend with to boot. It's nice to see your community pitch in to help one another on these projects. Sadly that's something most other areas of the country lack.   sad.gif

Hey Ed, assuming that you still haven't solved your iDVD problem, here's a good description of how to fix it:

http://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com...VD-Themes-66079

Hope that helps. smile.gif

Years ago, my parents leveled our summer cottage, which in those days was sitting on pilings (not IN the water though - we are on the banks of Lake Ontario). It was a similar operation to yours - lots of neighbours and lots of jacks!

The really weird thing was, after they finished, we all felt like we were walking uphill into the living room, even though it was now perfectly level. I remember running a ball along the floor, because I didn't believe it was actually level!

wallbash.gif I got confused about the word "arrow" and the red one you must have added to the screen capture. I thought it was the red arrow that was the problem even though you plainly stated it was the "light gray "arrow" that kind of looks like it should have text in it." rolleyes.gif I've been rather busy lately... like getting my SUV pulled out of the back yard where I managed to get it stuck!!! eek2.gif But I really had planned to do some searching about this. Might even have opened iDVD!!! WOW.gif That and iMovie always give me trouble since I use them so irregularly, while everyone else says they're so simple. I think the problem is that I'm too simple! blush-anim-cl.gif Anyway, glad we can depend on "foreigners" to solve our problems!!! laugh.gif

OMG; THANK YOU, PADDY!  Yep, that answered my question and turned me on to a great website, all in one fell swoop!

Jeez, Jim. . . I can only imagine what your back yard must be like in order for you to get your SUV stuck back there!  Maybe it's time to move up to a Land Cruiser or a military Hummer or a Striker!  biggrin.gif

You're welcome, Ed. smile.gif

Maybe Jim should just go for a Duck Boat. Then he could drive it through the pond too. wink.gif
