Google Safari Cookies
« on: May 07, 2012, 09:39:08 AM »
When operating Safari, I still get Google cookies installed when not even visiting a Google related site.

I thought this was supposed to be stopped.

And Google is being investigated, and possibly fined for bypassing Safari security:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-04/g...ari-breach.html

But it still happens:

Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Safari 5.1.5
iMac mid-2010 27" i7

Here are:

What the h gives? How can I stop this crap???

Many sites use "Google Analytics" scripts that record info that helps Google keep track of info for that site. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent to NoScript (for Firefox). Since the script is installed by the site, not sure how it would be affected by anything claiming unfair cookies by Google. And I'm not even sure it creates cookies as much as simply report back to the 'mother ship' the info from the site's visitors. dntknw.gif

I use Do Not Track Plus. It does a great job of blocking Google Analytics. I have the preferences set to default.

Bruce,

Where do you find Do Not Track Plus?

I tried to find it in Apple's Extension Gallery - and MacUpdate site

Kept getting can not find messages for

• DNT +
• DNT Plus
• Do Not Track Plus
• Etc Etc

And, does this prevent Google from feeding you cookies?

Thanks,

Jack

PS Found it!

Thanks Bruce

A quick Google search found Do Not Track Plus. I haven't used it in Safari; instead I use Ghostery, which seems to work quite well for me.

Bruce & Jon,

I use Ghostery in Safari also, but I still get the cookies.

I dl'd DNT+ and will install it soon.

It seems to have more capabilities than Ghostery.

Is there anything wrong with using more than one extension that does similar things??

Thanks again!
