Take the phrase before the comma, subtract the first word, add the result to the end, right after the "not." He just shortened the text by not repeating the positive attribute he mentioned; treating humans as humans.

There's a difference in writing a complete sentence and not.
There's a difference in preparing a great meal and not.
There's a difference in using a Mac and not.
