Safari 6 users help request
« on: September 28, 2012, 11:59:30 AM »
Here's the problem. Safari 6 comes with Mountain Lion. It's not yet a separate download. Probably will be with the next "cat" or possibly sooner. dntknw.gif

Earlier this week, I was updating my Mail Scam website and discovered a horrible 'response' to the "Back to the top" link/button! The whole page turned solid red (not a color used anywhere in the CSS, BTW)! I noticed that the vertical scroll bar indicated that I was at the top of the page, so the html seems to have worked. I used the command-down arrow to move that scroll bar back to the bottom (with the screen/window still showing nothing but red). Then the command-up arrow returned the actual page to normal. It then operated normally, even when the "Back to top" link/button was used. wacko.gif

I've asked several TSers to check for this behavior on pre-version 6 Safari installs and all reported normal page display. It also works normally in Firefox (the only other browser I have). And last, but not least, things work normally on my wife's MBP with Safari 6.0.1! However, I did notice an extremely fast red flash as the page view moved to the top. Of course, that machine has a slower CPU than mine. Thinking.gif This leads me to believe this problem is in my install of Safari. Unfortunately, I can't find a way of re-installing just that app.

I have used Safari's Reset command and the Develop menu's Empty Caches command to no avail. I have also booted into the Restore drive and run Disk and Preferences Repair. No changes, of course.

My questions:
1. Anyone know of a way to re-install Safari 6, even the base version without a complete restore/install of Mountain Lion?
2. Anyone tried Pacifist on the ML installer?

One possibility (and I can't test it) is to reapply the Combo 10.8.2 Update. This is an old remedy that often cures weird problems.

Yep, I haven't installed that update yet. Been watching the "MY WORLD JUST CRASHED AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF THAT UPDATE" threads. laughhard.gif   Frankly, things seem fairly smooth on that and it is probably faster and less problem creating than a Restore/Reinstall.

Most of the problems I've seen are with that update along with Aperture and iPhoto. While I have both of those, I can't remember the last time I used either one. rolleyes.gif

Later: Bit the bullet and did the 10.8.2 update. Site working correctly. Safari fixed. [ fingers-crossed emoticon ] -> superstition.gif

Ooh, ooh! And now I have direct contact with Facebook! Wait... I don't have a Facebook page, anymore! At least I told them to take it down a couple of years ago... of course, accessing it would automatically re-inable it (according to their rules-du-jour)... so there's no safe way to know. wallbash.gif rolleyes.gif
