I still like Netscape 7. I haven't had a pop-up ad since I started using Netscape 7.0.1.

I found that for some reason that I couldn't figure out, I can't seem to configure 7 the way I have for my 4 mail.  Instead of working on it, I got lazy and just go to 4 for mail and Composer.  Still couldn't get that scrolling cursor and stuff like that to work in 7.  My fault, not Netscapes.

Since you asked:

So far, I'm definitely under-enthuzed (sp?) !

My $0.01:

I'm never impressed with buttons/text that don't fit on a window. Sure sign of amateur programming/testing. Apparently the prefs window uses HTML, which may explain part of that plus the non-mac like and slightly clumsy gui there. Maybe it's just a windows port!

Second, and most important to me. For some reason, I can't get this version to use Shared Menues (URLM Pro), even in 9.1. I simply will not give up that program!

Third, I don't see any speed improvement, but that is not after any extensive testing, just my first impressions.

Other minor things are the too tall location text box area. The box is OK, but how can I get rid of the "Search" button and those space-wasting Back/etc. buttons? those should be in another 'bar' so I can get rid of them all! Then the text area could be much shorter, maybe gain another whole line of text on a site. That's what I want a browser to show me, the site, not its skins/trinkets/etc. Just stay out of my way and let me surf!

And what on earth are those tab things?! More space wasting! At least they can be removed.

<rant>
Finally, I don't need/want another e-mail client, I like what I've got, thank you very much. I think I managed to not install that component. So why not give me the option of not installing the Composer? I don't need/want that part either. Why not make a product that does what I want ( a fast, CSS2-compliant, HTML-standards supporting web browser ) and leave that other stuff for those that know how to build them?!</rant>

As for the pop-up stopping, that's already available by other means. And I was able to get the stupid User Profiles barrier to disappear by deleting the "Default User." That helps the opening times a little.     I suppose I could just keep the location text bar closed, that's how I run IE, anyway, I so seldom type in any url's...

Oh well, gotta got tell URLM Pro to forget about NS 7 Just watch for IE opening and start up them.

Oh yeah, it crashed on me last night. But it may have been a memory problem, had IE, URLMP, NS 7, Eudora, Mariner Write, icWord, and several other apps running at once.

Preferences>Navigator  Bottom right pane.  Start UNchecking everything you don't want showing.

-edit-I just found out you can also go to View>Show/Hide and select which bars you show.  I just hid the component bar, like you, I don't use Composer and I am sure not using IM, and for Mail and Newsgroups, I'm used to going to Window>Mail& Newsgroups or Command-2.

Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

You're question piqued my curiosity so I just launched it for the first time in awhile.  It's faster than I remember it.  I am able to turn of AIM (a necessity).  Just click 'sign off' at the bottom and make sure it doesn't say 'sign in at launch,'  but then it seems to make you sign in when the browser launches is a pain, though.  Why do they need to know who I am?

Thanks for the info Jenie! Now if you could tell the folks at NS to support Shared Menus like most other browser developers...    I simply will not give up URLMP interactions/interoperability!

Now, for something completely different...

Is Bernie throwing his hat into the ring for "site artist?!"    You got my vote!

Does anyone happen to remember a thread specifying exactly what files one had to remove to get rid of 99% of the AIM/AOL/ICQ stuff?

I remember that Jennie had figured it out... but don't remember what thread it was... and of course I never thought to bookmark it... duh!
