Christmas iPad Home button ceased to work

My grandson got an iPad for Christmas and now the Home button doesnt work.
My older grandson has gotten the iPad working fine, but not the Home button.
Im not sure of how these work, but I think I should call Apple, as its still under warrantee, only 7 months old.
Anybody have a similar problem with theirs?

Other than the home button, it works fine.

Under warantee definitely calling Apple is the first order oof business.

Definitely don't tamper with it until Apple has their say.  It wouldn't be good to do something that voided the warantee!

Ive got all its specs written down, serial # and so forth.
Will call Apple in a little while.
I have always had very good/top notch help from Apple.
When school starts he will need it, so gives me a little while to get this done.

You might want to verify the settings for that button have not been changed, assuming you can ever get back to the Settings! It may even be open but not active. Right now I can't remember the multi-finger swipe that shows all the apps that are running. Try Googling something like 'multi-finger swipes on iPhone 5'.

My other grandson was using the iPad and found that in the Accessory settings, there is a virtual home button!  So the iPad is usable, but Ive just gotten off the phone w. Apple, and they are going to call  back in about 20 minutes after they read the info that is being sent to them from my iMac. All the iPad info is now in my iTunes, so when they call back and determine the problem, I can then restore it.
