Turning apps off on the iPhone!
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:08:33 AM »
There is a guy who wrote about "minimizing" the app experience on the iPhone platform because it was something he ended up involving himself too much with all of the time:

QUOTE
Having the ability to check email–and a bajillion other things–any time at all, not just when I’m sitting at a computer looking at a web browser… I started to suspect it was not such a great thing for me.

I felt like my attention span–not so great to start with – was getting worse. My head was kind of buzzing around all the time. And for what? The things I read on the phone tended to make me feel at best unsatisfied (because there’s always more information out there that I haven’t seen) and at worst unproductive and uncool.

I'm sure this runs counter to what they market the iPhone for but it might actually turn it into something that I wouldn't mind using!  Is there anyone else that thinks the technology sucks too many hours out of you day and your life?

Uhmn... yeah, I have maybe a dozen apps disabled via iTunes. And if you're afraid you might need something that you've disabled, you can always just pile/file stuff into a folder and they're still available with an extra touch. I don't think his problem is any 'smart phone' or app, he just needs more intelligent choices of what he installs and why. After all, it's your phone, use it like YOU want to. Doh! dntknw.gif

I don't understand why he buys a super-capable phone and then strips it of all the stuff it could have done. Save your money and buy an old-style 'flip phone' from K-mart! laughhard.gif I wonder if he uses the individual drive selections on his automatic shifting car? Wonder if he has a microwave... Air conditioning? Credit card? rolleyes.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Reminds me of an incident a few years ago, when camera-phones were becoming all the rage. My old phone had died and went to the local phone store to get a replacement.

"Do you want a camera phone?"
"Not really - just want a cheap phone with text - got my own PAYG sim."
"Cheapest one we have is only 20 pounds, but does have a camera." After a long pause:  "But the camera's crap."

One of a rare breed – an honest salesman. Wonder why the store went out of business?  Thinking.gif biggrin.gif

Here's another idea! These guys thought giving someone a shock everytime they surfed over to Facebook might do the trick:

This is website for the Pavlov Poke:

I note that they don't attach the device to the Macbook itself! flail.gif
