Was talking to the local mac dealer late yesterday afternoon.
Brought up the 1.42 DP in the conversation.
He made the comment that he would be surprised if there were any 1.42s still left in the apple camp. Then he said jokingly apples production belt has been cleaned off and ready-to-rock with the G5.

The dual 2 GHZ ... it was $300 cheaper than the dual 1.42 I had originally ordered.

Hey, look at it this way......at least you'll be getting a computer...it will be a G5....the fastest one Apple makes.......then you get to give us every gory detail on how fast, quite, shiny, powerful the little bugger is!

Congratulations on your new G5! I'm sure you'll be happy with your decision to go that route.

Did you get the AppleCare with it? For all the trouble, Apple should give that to you.

I've had the Applecare package since the 11th or 12th of June as well as the 20' Display. I'm on "pins and needles" until the G5 ships!

Not sure how applecare works as far as retroactive [could look up mine I suppose] but I'd take a look at the fine print.
Why have it 'wasting' days/weeks when you haven't received the G5 yet.

Then again the machines "ID" has to be punched into their data banks for applecare to be active.

One thing I am wondering: I see that the 2 ghz DP will have slots for PCI-X cards; can a regular PCI card be installed in a PCI-X slot?
