Yep! That's the way it works around here. The 40 pound pooch wets her pants (if she had any) at the sight of the 9 pound cat. We have a kiddy gate in the door that separates one side of the house from the other. Cat's on our side, the dog stays on the other.

However, the cat is useless as a "guard cat!" At the sound of the mail man or any other vehicle stopping in the street, she is under a bed in the blink of an eye! Epitome of a 'scaredy cat!' And the dog, hearing the same sound, assumes that someone is coming just to visit her!! "Come on in! Glad to see you!" rolleyes.gif

Then there was the dog I rescued when I moved into my house. She was overly protective, letting no males, except Dad and my brother, come near me (made dating a bit difficult rolleyes.gif).

But she was very friendly with the cat my Dad took in and gave shelter in the garage (allergies prevented indoor life).

Maybe they knew each had a shared background. Thinking.gif

That is a very cute video! Our previous dog was very very cautious around our cat, till they got to know each other well, then they played.

Lilly is too friendly, anybody comes to the house, she is all over them and then rolls over for the endless tummy rubs.
Played ball with the gas company guys who were here last week for 2 days. When they come back for the installation of the appliances, one of the guys is going to bring his Chocolate Lab.

But our neighbour adopted a tiny dog from St. Thomas(island), had him flown to Boston and he is extremely protective of them, and very scared of other dogs and any human wearing a baseball cap.

 But one day, Lilly was lying on her back on their lawn and let him sniff her all over, and things are OK with him now. But I think his vision is limited, as he barks like crazy when we walk by, but stops when they get close enough. He is a good watch dog, the opposite of Lilly.
