Permissions repair warning?
« on: December 30, 2013, 11:59:30 PM »
Well, guys, the MacBook Pro is up & running, and I'm really excited about the speed with which it does the processing in Aperture.  After installing everything, I ran my disk utility, and ran a permissions repair and got:

"Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent” has been modified and will not be repaired."

Is this something that should concern me?  Is there anything I can/should do to correct this?

As usual, thanks in advance!

That's one of the warnings that you can safely ignore. Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore. You will get that message every time that you repair permissions; it happens to me too.

Ignore it and have a Happy New Year!  biggrin.gif

How often do you repair permissions? I had heard it wasn't necessary any more.

I do it when the mood strikes and I have nothing better to do because I'm bored. Maybe once every two months? As long as nothing seems amiss, I don't bother.

I always operated under the belief that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission... rolleyes.gif

Seriously, the non-problematic 'warnings' make it more frustrating than helpful to perform this function. Many utilities, such as SuperDuper, can perform this task during their normal operation and you may be doing that daily, anyway. I basically follow the same 'schedule' as Jon; when I think about or have some kind of minor problem. wink.gif

With Apple's seeming obsession for frequent notifications of updates, I don't understand why they can't/won't make this utility more machine/OS specific. It would certainly make their systems look more stable and reliable than publishing a document saying, basically:

Don't worry about what our own utility is telling you. It really doesn't know what it's talking about. OTOH, there may be something it's telling you that is important, we just don't have time to fix the reporting mechanism.
And thanks for buying our products, BTW!
That list was updated that list a little over six months ago... rolleyes.gif

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

I run the permissions repair if an app starts acting a little flaky; I did it the other day because the laptop was taking a while to start up and shut down.  I was really glad that I had partitioned the hard drive, because I was able to run it from the old 10.8 side, when the disk utility would not run. . .

It doesn't hurt, of course, to repair permissions but I would be more inclined to run Repair Disk. Starting up in Safe Mode will do the equivalent but it also does much more.
