Huh? Website sent a text?

I have a flip phone and am on Verizon.  This morning, I received a text message from a website (I guess?), and so I tried to google it and came up with nothing.  

Maybe someone here can make sense of it?

It was from: shantora@tresduo.tld.cc with this message

I figure someone here can explain this to me, and tell me what the heck the   "TrusT3Dimplmnt  [mO-v.jp/?mov=326"   means and how someone unknown can send me a text from a ?website?  Thanks!

"tresduo" (.com) is the url for a Polish faucet brand. Their site has several videos (movies. ".mov" = Apple's suffix for a QuickTime video). Although the movies I see there are actually hosted on YouTube and seem to be Flash.

"tld" usually stands for top level domain.

As for it coming from a "web site" that's certainly possible. While it probably uses a scripting 'language' on the sites server, there's not really a limit on what can be done/sent with the right code. I'd suggest this is likely an error on the plumbing site. OTOH, it could be a phishing message. Either way, I think you're safe... as long as your plumbing doesn't find out your looking at replacing things!

Most url's are just a <combination of separate bits of info> between those periods ("."). You can search each bit via your favorite search engine and get leads/ideas about what to look for next. Just be careful with the often confusing additional "info" at the end of a url, usually after a "?". That is usually information sent to the owner and may have information that identifies you! As Abe Lincoln said, "Internet Search engines are your friend."

Oh boy! Plumbing phishing!  (Glad the plumbing is just fine!)  I tried Mr. Google and came up with not much that made sense!

Small World proof: I decided to download the new Swift language manual this morning. It is available for free, of course. But when iTunes opened to the download page, I was greeted with a request for my Apple ID password. OK, it's just a formality, here ya go. OK, now I get a request to verify my 'payment info'. For a 'free' item?! Well, it has been several months since I last got anything from the Store... After all the password entries and inserting the missing pieces, the download went smoothly and fast.

I had Mail open, BTW. Almost immediately, I hear the 'ding' of an in-coming message. Sure enough, it was from Apple reporting that I had made changes to my "Shipping and/or billing address". Uh, no, I added the security PIN to the credit card section (which seems to never be saved), nothing about my address changed.

So, my paranoid mind snaps to attention! Then I remembered your experience and just deleted the thread.

BTW, now that I changed my Apple ID password to something un-rememberable much less pronounceable, I seem to have more requests for it in non-browser apps! Thank goodness I can access (copy) it from the 1Password mini Menu Bar access.

Interesting!  I'm doing the free 30-day trial with 1Password4 and so far, yeah, I'm confused but only a little bit-eventually, I get it to work the way my brain understands it (I think)!  lolam!

Why not start a new thread about your questions/problems? Changing topics in a thread makes it hard to find the info later and harder for some to even know there is info available. I'm sure someone can help you understand the process of using 1Password, and there may be several different ways! The point is, it's important to your interweb security to use a good PW manager and 1Password may not be the best tool for you. So, Sooz, see what you can say at Survivors!

It's spam. Just garden-variety spam.

The URL itself actually goes to a hacked site that is hosting a payday loan spam page. The hackers set up a page they want to spam, then they use a device that can send out thousands of text messages a day. (They don't even send them just to cell phones; sometimes, they'll send them to 813-215-0001, 813-215-0002, 813-215-0003, 813-215-0004, and so on.)

Just another form of spam, nothing else. It's illegal, but that doesn't seem to matter.
