White ink
« on: July 30, 2003, 05:58:44 PM »
I'm curious.

Is there such a thing? Are there printers, ink jet or other types, that print white on darker paper? Or any color for that matter.

Google did not yield anything.

Nope.

Printer ink is translucent. If you printed white ink on black paper, it still wouldn't look white.

Sorry...

There is (or at least was) a printer that could print white, or silver/gold/etc. But it is not an 'ink'jet. It was a relatively inexpensive dye-sublimation printer. The 'ink' is actually more a wax that is transferred to the paper by heat. Since the 'ink' is solid, it can cover the base material of any color (usually). Unfortunately, it is slow by inkjet standards and somewhat limited in availablility (carts are probably also limited to those of the maker - read, expensive!). And the resolution was only about 360 x 360 dpi. They are great for making decals (where white is almost always needed) and they are naturally waterproof (unlike most inkjet inks).

I can't remember the name of the company that made (makes?) this thing, so I can't help beyond this! wallbash.gif  doh.gif  oops.gif
