Surprise, surprise!
« on: October 18, 2014, 12:07:22 AM »
Well, this is a new one on me.  Tonight I was downloading some photo things and adding them to a folder, and just now, when I went to look at something, I double clicked on the folder, and it wouldn't open, and the menu bar grayed out.  Anybody have any Ideas?  I repaired permissions, and restarted, and had the same result wallbash.gif The folder info says it's got 8.6 gigs in it, so I'm just baffled.

Strangely enough, if I enter the Mavericks icon, ad go to users and desktop, I can open the folder from in there. . . but that's a hassle!  Help!

Thanks in advance!

Weird, indeed! As I understand it, this folder is on your Desktop?

Is there actually 8+GB of stuff in there?

Have you tried deleting the folder and re-downloading?

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? Hold down the shift key at start up until you see a progress bar. This mainly disables every startup code from non-Apple sources.

How about a single click (select) on the folder and then use command-O?

Does "Finder" (or any other item) in Activity Monitor show differently when double-clicking that folder as opposed to drilling down from your HD?

Well, Jim, it was one of those "D'oh!" moments!  When I'm home, I have the MacBook hooked up to an external monitor. . . Need I say more?  biggrin.gif  The folder was over on the external, and all I had to do was pull it back over to the small screen.  What tipped me off was that my Mail window was over there when I fired the 'puter up this morning. . .

There's a TS emoticon for that! doh.gif

Glad you figured it out, I was really grasping at straws since I had no idea why Finder would seem to operate differently at different times. blush-anim-cl.gif
