Tor exit router
« on: September 01, 2015, 11:48:48 AM »
I got an email from a trapshooters forum where I had enquired about purchasing something long ago, it said;
"Dear (my correct user name), Someone has tried to log into your account (whatever.com), Forum with an incorrect password at least 5 times.
This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.
The person trying to log in had the following IP address: 195.154.56.44
All the best, my whatever.com Forums"

I ignored it, but got another one this morning, so I Googled the IP address, and got a page saying that this was a Tor Exit Router.
Im hoping that is not a bad thing?
Here is my screenshot.
Never saw anything like this before. A bit inetresting aftee I found out what a TER is.

PS, this has been a wonderful and busy summer, our grandkids are at the optimum age for fun, so I havent used the computers much.

It just means that whoever is trying to hack into your account is at least smart enough to use Tor so his/her real location is masked. Of course, the problem is, blocking that IP address will do no good at all, since it will change and it's not the hacker's real IP address. Kinda like trying to block the scumbag duct cleaners who use spoofed telephone numbers (including my own - they've done that twice...do they really think I'm going to answer a call from my own phone number??? Riiiight...) - it's like a giant game of whack-a-mole and the mole always wins.

Thank you!
Its such an old forum, and I havent used it for a long long time, trapshooting and stuff like that. We can buy our stuff locally now, so I never bother to log in.
So I will just ignore this.

We hardly ever get any telemarketing phone stuff on our land lines any more. None on our iPhones.
Spam seems to be much less also, which Im very thankful for.

If you ignore further messages by keeping your registration, you are deliberately leaving your info available to the known hackers! If you no longer use the site, why do you want to leave any data there?! dntknw.gif

I never thought of unsubscribing with them. Once in a long while I look up the price of some reloading stuff. Or ask a question.
The hacking ended, and its the first time Ive ever had that happen. So not particularily worried about it.
