Drive 10 vs. TechTool Pro 4

Used TechTool Pro 3 with 9.2, and installed Drive 10 for Jaguar.  Now I see there is a TechTool 4 for Jaguar.  Why is the same company producing two different programs and what is the difference???

All I know it that the "mumbling" I've heard about Drive 10 was hardly inspirations/encouraging. Sorta in the "non-event" category. I never thought it gave any reason to get it.

TechTool, OTOH, with every OS from 6.x to 9.x always seemed to me to be invaluable.  

Disk Warrior and Disk Utility seem to do the OS X job(s) for me even though I have very little real appreciation of what they are doing . . . except it's clearly "good" stuff

"Drive 10 does some hardware testing of the drive (hence the name of the program), disk directory rebuilding, and disk optimization, while running under Mac OS X. It is a Carbon application.
 
Techtool Pro 4 will run under Mac OS X as a Cocoa application. It will have a comprehensive set of hardware tests, directory rebuilding, and disk optimization. For the latter functions, the capabilities will initially be the same as those in Drive 10, even though the code base is different. Eventually, the disk optimizer in techtool Pro may offer more features than the one in Drive 10. The modular nature of techtool Pro will make it possible to upgrade one test without having to replace all the others."

I bought the newest version of Drive 10 a few months ago then registered to receive a free copy of TT4 when it is released.  Still haven't seen TT4?  Anyone else receive a copy?

Drive 10 seems to do a nice job.  Especially now that it has the defrag feature now.

Ryan, TTP 4.0 is due for release this summer (in the northern hemisphere), probably within the next 30 days.

I am an owner of TTP 3.09 and signed up for a so-called discounted upgrade to TTP 4 and have not received it yet. I hope that it does the job since I have ordered it.

I have both of these programs.  TT3 can repair volumes and files and your kitchen sink too, where as drive 10 concentrates on defraging and formatting.  D10 is so slow at defraging it is almost useless.  TT3 is a jack of all trades program like Norton Utilities.  TT 4 release has been pushed back several times. I think it's now set for August.  I sent all these disk utilities to the scrap heap since OS X.  It seems they can't get a UNIX file structure down pat to save their lives.  However I did buy Disk Warrior 3 and love it. Alsoft knows UNIX and Macs and their working on a cocoa optimizer. See Flash's Defrag tread for a great schooling on the technology.

    TechTool Pro 4 will be a complete repair utility native to the OS X.
