Anyone go from 10.6.8 to El Capitan?
« on: November 04, 2015, 03:19:18 PM »
My friend has "a lot" of Adobe Creative Suite activities (think it's version 6) and is getting a message about updating to El Capitan.

1) Has anyone else seen this?  Done this?

2) Does this sound like a good idea?

I've never seen this message. I'm a bit confused as to what is sending this message: her Macintosh or Adobe? Is there something that prompts the messageā€”i.e.: doing a particular task in Adobe, or logging into the App store, or something else?

It might also help to know what Macintosh she is running and the exact version of Adobe CS as well.

It's the same Apple message that appears regularly on our iMac (Mountain Lion), but has only recently appeared on the MBP, which is still on SL. Caroline uses the MBP and asked me the same question - should I update?

I suggested holding off since there are apps on the MBP that won't even run in ML, let alone EC, so we're following the old saying: "If it ain't broke..."

I never got that message in 10.6 with PS CS5.  PS CS5 works fine in Yosemite and EC although it requires Java 6 (there are prompts to download and install it when either starting up Y or EC for the first time or launching PS). I don't believe that CS6 requires that version of Java. A good reason for considering the upgrade is that 10.6 is no longer supported and there are lots of security improvements in EC.

I, too, love these abbreviations.  whistling.gif

I'll try to go upstairs and get a copy of the screen; I'm sure it's coming from Apple, Adobe is just the real concern with updating.

I'm certain it's from Apple, since we have no paid-for Adobe software on the MBP.

Users have pointed out that Snow Leopard is the last OS that can run Rosetta apps.

Mixed results for Adobe Suite 6 on El Capitan itself:

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1968369

One of the comments suggests they had to reinstall Adobe Suite.  Still not clear on a statement of going from 10.6.8 to El Capitan
and for some reason access to a Apple Communities discussion is currently blocked for me.   wallbash.gif

Would be nice to see a screen capture of the "request to upgrade" dialog. Sounds like the normal App Store nag, can't remember is 10.6 had Notification Manager. But it might well be an 'automatic' Adobe 'version-checking' routine. dntknw.gif

My usual feeling about upgrading is that the longer you put it off, the more complicated, confusing, and problem inducing it can be. YMMV. It's rather like not voting; it's your choice, but don't expect much sympathy if things don't turn out like you wanted! wink.gif

BTW, Apple's Forums working here, perhaps they take a 'lunch break' at every time zone's "noon"! laughhard.gif

Probably Apple blocking is on our end; usually is!
