Using iPod in car - need help

The bluetooth between my iPod and Mazda no longer works (it’s an Apple/Mazda software issue and from what I’ve read neither company wants to fix it). Rather than burn a ton of CD’s, I had this brainy idea that maybe I could use the AUX outlet – after all that’s how I played my old iPod in the car. Doing that would require an AUX to lightning cable, and there’s my problem. Either I’m not searching correctly (highly possible), or they don’t make such a cord. I did find these Y shaped things, but I can’t tell if they will actually work as I need.

Does anyone understand this stuff enough to know if this gadget would work, or maybe you can point me to what I need. Please.

Looks like the one you linked to has you covered. I would suggest you wrap the uncovered jacks with electrical tape. BTW, that tape will probably get gooey after being in the car during a Summer sitting out in the Sun with the windows up!

Note the info on turning down the volume on the iPod!!!

Thanks for the links, especially to InCarCables (which auto correct wants to change to incurables - ha ha). After reading, I realized I could use a Male to Male 3.5mm Auxiliary Cable. Found a good one at Amazon, and already ordered it.

My late Father-in-Law left a roll of duct tape on the back seat (cab-and-a-half) pickup. A few seasons later, we found it almost impossible to move the tape to a more accessible location... wallbash.gif laughhard.gif

Cancelled my order when I found one in a box of electronic stuff, and I used it today. No difference—the iPod plays the same song over and over and over. sad.gif  I'm going to try wiping my iPod and reinitiating it to see if that helps (although it didn't help others). Still, it's worth a try.

May want to check and see if "repeat song" is selected before any reset/restore....

Make sure the jack side of the iPod is on the bottom. The output exits more easily with gravity assist. yes.gif Of course, the "Repeat" thing sounds like something easy to check... Groaner.gif

That's never been on, but I just double checked and it's not selected. This appears to definitely be a software glitch between Apple and Mazda.

Just may be time for a new car, I guess. You have to keep your priorities in order... Thinking.gif

To my dull mind's way of thinking, the auto is nothing but the 'dumb' recipient of the music from the iPod.... And should have nothing to do with the selection or sequencing of the music to be played.
The iPod - player is the controller of the selection - sequencing of the music to be played..

Then again, what do I know of these things???

Yesterday I completely restored my iPod, made sure software was up to date via iTunes, and added music back to it. My Mazda recognized the iPod right away (which is a first as over the past year it often refused to recognize the iPod). Music is now shuffling as it should. Hopefully this took care of whatever glitch there was. The dealer said there is an update to the Mazda's bluetooth software and I can "buy" the upgrade if I want. We'll see.
