Magic Mouse a problem
« on: October 23, 2015, 07:44:04 PM »
I have been using my Magic Mouse for eons.  ALl of a sudden, every so often ( too often, actually), when I click, I get a drop down menu.  I am not doing anything differently.  The only solution is to turn off the mouse, and then turn it back on.  It behaves for a while, and then starts giving me the drop downs again.  Need help!!! Thanks in advance.

Is the mouse wired/connected to your computer or is it wireless (with batteries)??
If the latter...maybe you need to replace the batteries, a cheap fix.

And what do the drop down menus say??

Wireless. New batteries. The drop down menu varies depending on the site or program.

So basically it's invoking a right click without you having actually done a right click?

Have you checked it carefully for lint, dust, hair etc.?

Other suggestions: http://osxdaily.com/2014/08/01/mac-mouse-t...roubleshooting/

OR...do you happen to have another mouse in the vicinity?? Read through this thread:

Also check the settings in System Prefs->Mouse. You can adjust what happens when you "right-click", even turn it off. You can always use 'control'- click. Might also check that the battery contacts, in the mouse, are clean.

Finally, make sure you haven't gradually changed how you hold the mouse. Over time, you may have started using the "right-click" area of the mouse without realizing it.

Remember, these mice have mechanical switches. Switches fail, corrode, etc. They don't usually last as long as electronics.

BTW, if you're thinking of replacing the mouse, I highly recommend the Magic Trackpad. I rarely use my mouse now! But my rather large hand made the Magic Mouse useless. Your milage may differ! wink.gif

I had a very strange acting mouse last year, took it apart and there was a big dog hair stuck right across the port.

A new kind of "mouse droppings"?
I'm not a complete idiot -- a few parts are missing!
