Can't find Photos
« on: February 19, 2017, 08:00:03 AM »
Last night I went to drag and drop a couple of pictures into iphoto. When I opened it, it asked me to choose a library but the list was blank or to create a new library. This morning I have searched my imac to no avail, and on my back up drive, but found no library. Can someone please tell me where to find said libray, or what to do. If necessary I can download all the photos from my camera, but they were organized into various folders and don't want to have to do that again. Looking forward to a solution, thanks, Johan
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

What app did you use for your search?

I only use iPhoto/Photos accidentally, but my "Photos Library.photoslibrary" is in a folder/directory named "Pictures". I may have created that folder/directory myself, so you may not have one.

You might try searching for the file extension, "photoslibrary" with or without the leading period ("."). Even Finder can find those on my System. They are also in all my Time Machine backups and the windows there are exactly like those in Finder, so there is a search box there.

Once you find them, I very much encourage you to find another storage method, preferably on a separate drive.

After several futile attempts by looking on my iMac and 2 external drives, I simply attached the camera and downloaded my 400+ pictures. And all is right with the world. Johan

1. Can you now find the ".photoslibrary" files on the iMac?

2.a. Do you use Time Machine to back up your iMac?
2.b. Do you have any items excluded from its back up list?
2.c. Is it running/enabled?

Time Machine Excluded list

Time Machine is running/enaled

3. Do you use any other back up method?
