It used to be until recent times that if I double clicked on a file it would open to be read. Now a lot of files are in .txt or .rtf format and they have to be dragged to Tex-edit plus or MS word icons to open. I wonder if I have done something to create this situation.

1.When you get these .txt or .rtf files, do a get info (Command+I) on them.
2.Then go to the tab that says “Open with” and select your favorite text editor, M$ Word or whatever app you want these type documents to be opened with in the future.
3. Click Change All
4. In the next window click Continue.

From then on, all these documents will be linked as you indicated and open with the app you so directed.

Sanity is not a requirement here 'bouts. Just ask Bernie... whistling.gif

"You are old, father William," the young man said,
And your hair has become very white;
And yet you incessantly stand on your head --
Do you think, at your age, it is right?"

"In my youth," father William replied to his son,
"I feared it would injure the brain;
But now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,
Why, I do it again and again."

Double clicking those files should have opened the docs in textEdit automatically.
