Has IOS Version 11.2.5 (15D60)

I'm sending it back.

How do I wipe it clean before returning it?

Go to ‘settings’..... ‘general’.....  at the bottom is ‘reset’...    That all there is to it...

After you selected RESET, did you also select ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS?

I must have had some kind of Wi-Fi glitch when I tried yesterday.

Today, it asked mr for my router password, the OK !

Device is now reset.
