What are you more afraid of aliens or computers taking over?
« on: February 09, 2018, 08:04:38 AM »
I can remember reading a book by Jacques Vallee called the Invisible College.  It compared the phenomenal number of UFO sightings in the 1950's - 1970 with older mania concerning witchcraft and such.  There is apparently a need for an invisible enemy made manifest in a person's imagination! Maybe AI run amok is just the latest manifestation of this?

As AI’s presence in film and TV has evolved, space creatures blowing us up now seems almost quaint compared to the frightening uncertainties of an computer-centric world. Will Smith went from saving Earth from alien destruction to saving it from robot servants run amok. More recently, Ex Machina, Chappie, and Transcendence have all explored the complexities that arise when the lines between human and robot blur.

Hey, xABD, did you ever see a UFO when you were flying?  I ask this in part because years ago my father, a real meteorologist with the National Weather Service, stated he wouldn't believe in UFO's unless one landed in our backyard.  Using that logic he shouldn't have believed in tornado's either because he never actually saw one except on radar until he retired!

Nope. Only time I saw one was when it landed in our back yard. But nobody believed them when they reported my presence. They couldn't believe humans had not progressed further... I've also talked with Sasquatch, but nobody believed him, either! If it weren't for automatic doors, I would never get any respect! rant.gif

I don't remember who said this, but it's good: Sightings of UFOs don't prove that there is intelligent life in space, but do show that there is none on Earth.
