A large war game
« on: July 29, 2003, 11:12:24 PM »
I was asked to download this file, which I did a few weeks back for a kid who likes to play games. I was told it's a pretty good one for OSX only. Version tracker had it for free at one time, I see that it's $5 now. But $5 bucks is OK if the game is worth it they tell me.

I bought the CD PC version a while back and gave it away, I thought I was getting the Mac version. I went to this site and after giving all of my info I found out it was download only.  No way on a dialup. Perhaps they will put it on a Mac CD eventually. dry.gif

Hey, that's a neat game, SB.  Pretty steep requirement for what I have.

Even thou, I downloaded it and gave it a try.  And again I say, pretty steep requirements for what I have....lol....  It worked, but slowly and grainy.

Will save it for one day when I have something fast enough.

I believe that they are charging the $5.00 for bandwith. There are several sites that where AA is availible as a free download. You can get it for free at 3D Gamers. smile.gif

My son and i tried to download it yesterday from 3D gamer, MacGameflies and it was corrupt. Took nearly 2 hours on cable. It takes up 1 gig of space on the HDD! That paid d/l from the Army is supposed to be a faster d/l. I don't know if were gonna waist the time though. rolleyes.gif

I don’t have the equipment to play it, all I did was download it. I know folks out there in TSLand like games so I just thought I’d point it out. My take on it was it’s a point and shoot thingy and it worked slowly even on a Quicksilver with the best video card on the market. I watch about 2 minutes of it and had enough. wink.gif

Hi Gary,

I downloaded it from versiontracker yesterday @ 130KB/s took about 30 minutes  or so via cable and I didn't have to pay.   wink.gif  The file worked fine, try it from there.

btw, anybody, the file came in as a bz2 file, what a bz2 file?  Stuffit knew what it was.

It's been out on the  PC since forever. smile.gif

Just another Online First Person Military Shooter.

Only it happens to be made by Uncle Sam as a recruiting tool.

Caused one of the bigger Comment Threads when it was announced. smile.gif

Hey Al, that’s where I got mine! DSL Max 48KB/S averaged about 40KB/s and about 134 min. I went to a friends today and downloaded it on his cable Max 127/kb/s averaged less than 100kb/s download took 65 min.

Thanks for the link Kelly, I was hesitant to post it at first, hoping it wouldn’t cause a fuss. I  wondered why it was free? I don’t have games so I’m in the dark there and when it looked like a amusement park video I just took a walk.
If it wasn’t for the download request I wouldn’t know it existed.
I prefer the local shooting gallery myself, though it’s been a while since I’ve visited. wink.gif

Count yourself lucky- We almost never get over 3 kbps download, and average 2.5 on most days.

SB- you downloaded it- would it work on an eMac G4 700Mhz?

if so, would you compress it, and send me a copy please? Thinking.gif

BUT NOT BY EMAIL!!! biggrin.gif

Thanks

Peter

Peter,

The download is already compressed.  It is something like 300-400 MB to download, but it expands to something like a Gigabyte.  I am trying it out on an 800 Mhz FP imac.  I have the original so.. only the GeForce 2Mx graphics card.  You might have the 4Mx?  anyway, I will let you know how well it works.

Well after 19 hrs, download manager showed a complete download at 306.7 MB out of 351 MB. Apparently a large number of packet losses. I used Stuffit to expand and it pin wheeled at 5 seconds short of completion. I ran the process twice with the same results. Lesson learned. doh.gif
