Is my son's G4 laptop dying???
« on: August 06, 2003, 11:04:45 PM »
My son (lazy) has asked me to post his problem with his G4 laptop.  It is emitting a loud beeping noise when he turns it on, and if it starts to boot at all, it then crashes, but more often it never reaches that point - it appears to be in sleep mode with a tiny flashing white light at the bottom of the screen.  He tried booting from the CD and accomplished it once, but within  seconds, it crashed.  He needs to know whether this is a severe hardware problem (HD, etc) or whether he's missing something here that he ought to be seeing. This article explains the self test on boot and what the beeps mean.

You could also do a power manager reset described here.

Good luck, let us know.
