What Are You Reading: Summer 2018 Edition

I don't know if anyone else wants to do this but I'm reading On Night's Shore by Randall Silvis:

This is a series of books that feature a young Edgar Allan Poe as a young newspaper man digging into the mystery around the
death of a shop girl named Mary Rogers whose body was found in a river while people looked for the bodies of a mother and child
that weren't really dead or in the river.  I've read other books by this author and have really enjoyed them!

I'm also listening to Def Leppard's Adrenalize, Hysteria, and Pyromania albums! Yes, I know it's not summer yet but it sure feels like it already here in Kansas!

I've been reading the Mark Gimenez Scott Fenney series - The Color of Law, Accused, and The Absence of Guilt. Definitely not heavy reading - they were offered on BookBub at various times (the last one first, if I recall) and the first one was offered a couple of weeks ago, so now I have them all on my iPad.

BTW - BookBub can be a good source of books for iPad (Amazon, iBooks, Google & Kobo) - they aggregate the best of the various online book sellers freebies and specials each day and send you an email. Occasionally there is something really, really good - sometimes it's a lot of self-published stuff.

I'm also reading The Horse: The Epic History of Our Noble Companion by Wendy Williams. It's pretty interesting - I've learned things all sorts of things I didn't know about the history of horses & humans. (Frances - if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it).

So many books...so little time! I have stacks beside my bed, on shelves everywhere...

I get Bookbub each day also.... and often pick up a freebie or $1.99 book to fill in the gaps while I wait for a release from my more favorite authors...  Have found a couple of “keepers” but a lot that I don’t get beyond chapter 1 or 2.

I dont really read anymore. I like books being read to me and I do like comic versions if the art is good.

So, I am listening to The Rules of Magic (prequel) having just finished the sequel Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman.  Very good and nice to listen to while I do my physio walking.

I last read Neil Gaman's Neverwhere in "comic" form.  It was incredible.  Really gripping and I think I will listen to the audiobooks next of the novel.

An aside:  Music I am listening to is anything played by Daniil Trifonov.  He is an incredible Russian classical pianist whose interpretation of Chopin particularly leaves me blown away.  I cannot recommend his playing enough, especially the Piano Concerto No.2 in F minor Opus 21 (2) by Frederic Chopin.  It stopped me in my tracks.
