I was looking to see if I need a new version of Disk Warrior soon and saw this:

Quote
1) The startup Solid State Drives (SSDs) of Macs are automatically converted from Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) to Apple File System (APFS) when upgrading to macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

"Automatically" converts SSDs to APFS???
What version of 10.13 was that? Certainly it doesn't happen anymore or is Apple showing it's high and mighty status? I call that audacious temerity to assume to convert a person's setup without so much as a "by your leave."

Yep, you’re right, Dream; I went ahead and updated, after a few weeks of the prior system update, I got a problem that I thought I needed to run DW for.  It ran fine, but reported that there was a problem, but because the system had been converted to APFS, it could not be repaired.  I contacted Alsoft, and they said, basically, “We plan to release a version that will deal with the new file system AS SOON AS APPLE IS RELEASES THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE FILE SYSTEM! At that point, I decided to risk just hanging in there, as the only other choice was to reload Sierra from Time Machine.  🤬

The best thing I've found so far is this link:
http://osxdaily.com/2017/10/17/how-skip-apfs-macos-high-sierra/

There's a Terminal command there to execute to keep HS from converting to APSF, the unfortunate thing is that this one has to be run before running the OS installer. Not much of a help for people already stuck with it.

If you google the problem there are many work arounds people have posted however I haven't seen anything that would probably beat waiting for Disk Warrior if you can. I'm not sure how motivated Apple is however to provide the data they need...

My iMac was replaced last April. The new one has only a 512 GB SSD and 10.13 was already installed. But I've restored from TM several times since I got it. The TM (and CCC) backups are on external drives. Both are USB3, Mac OS Extended (Journaled). :dntknw:
