Dark Mode in Mojave
« on: November 05, 2018, 11:39:41 AM »
I'm testing Dark mode. Might be nice to have the control a bit more granular. I still don't care for light colored/white text on dark/black background. Mail and Calendar is the only apps I've seen that forces reversed text/backgrounds. At least the Safari allows a site to use their own colors. I suspect that most of Apple's apps/controls will end up like Mail...

I'm seeing problems with any app that allows setting certain text to different background colors. It usually just requires a darker version of the color you may have chosen. If it is a very light color to begin with, you might have to select a color on the other side of the color wheel.

(first image) Here is what happens when the author of an email uses some basic tools such as 'background color' and you open the message in Mail.

Solution: Mail Prefs->Viewing: uncheck "Use dark backgrounds for messages"

(second image) Again in Mail, SpamSieve dumps stuff into the "Spam" mailbox. For some unknown reason, Mail displays the list of messages differently making it impossible to read the title, date, etc. without actually selecting the message. The dark text on the dark background seems to be the worst possible combination. Of course, white text on a nearly white background runs an extremely close second. I wonder if that's what happens in the "Undark" mode?!

Interesting. If I ever have a Mac that can use Mojave, it won't be using dark mode as I flat out don't like it; but for those who need/want it, I think it's great.

All the "Highlight" colors are very dark with very little contrast with the background. While the item (text, url, etc.) is easy to see, it is very hard to see exactly what part of that item has been selected.
