The books are on their way; sent them yesterday on my way to work.  I was going to drop you an email, but the only one I had was your "webTV" address, and I figured that was no longer valid.  Hope the books help to answer some of your questions.

thanx.gif Ed, My Cox Internet Email is down! I had a few crashes and priority one was to get the System up and running I am using WebTV to post to the TS Board. I may have lost my Address Book and email.  I won't know until I can get TCP?IP to Configure Cox is no help.  They will just tell me it's a Systems problem.  I need to get this resolved before I can get my Service back. Thank you so much for the books. I will change my email address on the Board, as I don't have access to your email address- it's in OE or lost forever. Myrna

Mrs Lop...
Not sure of the technicalities of the TV-web system you are using, but you might be able to use the personal message system on TS to contact individuals if you can't email them..

Go to My Controls (under the banner), then under 'Messenger' on left click on 'compose new message'. You can then fill in the recipient's user name (eg Mrs Lop) and send the message.

Others, more expert than I, will be able to say for sure whether this would work for you.

Hello Highmac,

Thinking.gif I should have known that.  I have been sp very distracted.  You've no idea how slow and tiresome using WebTV is.  I was so elated to get up and running on a "real" computer.  I have just reestablished all the necessary TCP/IP connections with Cox HSI.  After being down for the past three days.  I called at about 1:30AM Eastern Time (USA),  to try to reach their Tech Support.  After going through: hearing the apologetic message, "We are experiencing a high volume of calls , due to the Blaster worm. ...".  Then it is time to wait while they calmly have the audacity to tell you that you can "visit us on line at www....  Finally, after many keystrokes and trying to think kind thoughts, a voice tells you toenter this, enter that, fifty-five keystrokes later, I got another menu to choose from: another voice intrudes , in order to better direct your call, please select from the following options.  Remember you can always visit us online , rather than being on hold."  After waiting a while longer and becoming tired of the whole process, I hung up.  I decided to enter into another one of my "Adventures" and resolved to stay calm in the face of what I knew to be my ignorance of what to do or how to do it.  I waited until I was bone weary and went to bed at around 3AM Wednesday morning.  As slow as I know that WebTv is, at least it works!
After a few hours of sleep, I woke up at 6:30AM and attempted to try to resolve these little difficulties.  I had just managed to do a clean reinstall of OS 8.5 and OS 8.6, so I was feeling rather good about that .  Well I am so glad that I didn't get overexcited about my previous success.  I encountered more gruntwork and a new appreciation for the intricate nature of the thing we know as "The Systems Folder."  I had to painstakingly examine each and every file and item, tick tock, tick tock.. on and on it went.  I have discovered that the Mac can wear me down and wear me out, with all of the things it requires me to do when things go wrong.
Perhaps the best thing about being so new to all of this that, I'm too ignorant to be frightened of taking the risks of attempting to do things to, with, for the Mac.It is very much like having a new baby.  As a parent , I can attest to the fact that babies are extremely demanding.  Well, in my view, the Mac can be very similar in its needs.    Tonight I had a very brief respite and went back to the grunt work.  I think I resolved some Extension conflicts by being so exacting.  I encountered many defunct and outmoded copies of things, and unmatched applications and Control Panels.  All and all it is going slowly, but I believe it will be worth it in the long run.  I gleefully threw a good amount of stuff into the Trash.  If and when I find that the clean reinstall matches up with the Extensions and Preferences happily coexisting, I will cheerfully empty the Trash.  I expect that I will even have time to go out and enjoy myself. (Hopefully, soon.)
Thank you for the reminder about the personal message and perhaps I will not have to use it for too much longer.  I hope to have my email up and running.

Leo,

Everything is relative to our positions in life.  Count your blessings if you
can have or do have the best, newest or fastest system, with all the
attendant "bells and whistles".

I am the optimistic sort : When God gives you lemons, make lemonade.

I don't envy or begrudge anyone what they have.

My essence is not based on or in material things or money.

Just for myself, I am exactly where God wants me to be.  Imperfect as I
may be, I am a work in progress and will be until the day I die.

I have to commiserate with you about openning mouth and inserting
foot.  I have done so myself and more than likely, will do so again.

Anyway, no real harm done; and of course, I accept your apology.

I don't know if I will ever reach the dizzying heights of Mac Guru. I think
that people may be expecting too much of me.

I am still recovering from
Cancer and not very strong right now.  Sticktoitiveness does not = strength.

smile.gif Leo,

I have had money, a nice home and new car.  I lost
everything.  That is how I learned.  That is why I don't
begrudge anyone else having things.

I also learned that losing "stuff" isn't important.  As long
I still had my life my faith in God and my family there was hope.

Today I live in an apartment and drive a 1987 Toyota.
So, being as old as I am and as sick as I am, I can still
dream of winning the lottery. LOL

What I do have is my children and grandchildren who
love me, even though I can't afford to give them a lot
of "stuff" or take them on expensive vacations.
I try to give them the best of me.

What I do have is a great church with a social and moral
conscience.  My church "family" is a refuge in times of
trouble and happy for me in the good times.

Last, but not least, I have the loving care of a great
husband.  He has nurtured and sustained me through
my bout with Cancer.  When my eyesight went out of
focus (during Chemotherapy), he made arrangements with his place of work to be drive me to all my appoint-
ments.

No, we are not rich by societal standards; but we are
happy.  smile.gif

Best of all, I have all these people all over this country
and Europe,
praying for me (those that can) and sending their good
thoughts and wishes my way.

Now that is awesome to me!  That makes me really
happy.

I am still trying to learn new things about my Mac and
how to use all the functions.  I have noticed that my
brain is still not functioning at top speed.  Chemotherapy
has really been hard on me in so many respects.  Still
I have most of my abilities, albeit a little more slow.

I am really grateful for divine providence that lead me to
the TS Board.  This past week marked my second month
of membership.  So, it's an anniversary!

Have a great evening.

Myrna

Personally, Myrna, I believe you are EXTREMELY wealthy; as you counted your blessings, I couldn't help but notice that you tend to focus on the positive, and not the negative! Thank you for being a great example to us all! wub.gif

blush-anim-cl.gif Hello Ed,

The books have not yet arrived.  I was pacing like a caged lioness on Saturday, waiting for the mail to arrive. As per my usual, I was attempting to find out about a function and a particular application.  Dick had already cautioned me to stay out of the Systems Folder.  I thought I might find the answers in the books.  I will let you know as soon as I receive them.
I should have realized that Washington State and Rhode Island are not exactly next door neighbors and that it might take a few more days to arrive.

The Spanish (Bolivian) Community of St Patricks (my church), hosted their annual celebration of Our Lady of Urkupina.  For the celebration, on Saturday they filled the church with roses.  When I arrived for the English speaking  Mass on Sunday, I was treated to the sight of dozens of beautiful arrangements of them all over the front of the church.

Our new priest, Father Ruggieri, speaks Spanish like a native.  He is a true gift to us.  At just 35 years old, he is just what we needed: full of energy and plans for "his" parish.  He hopes to serve as the bridge between the English speaking and Spanish speaking communities at St Patrick church.  Our retired priest, Father Kelly, couldn't speak Spanish.  We used to import a priest from a neighboring church to say our Spanish Mass.  Hopefully, this will go a long way toward making the church more cohesive.  I know that the media and press have long been playing up the negative aspects of priests and that it is an unpopular and disadvantageous time to be a priest.  They should have done a story on our Father Kelly.  His replacement is a real God send.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the festivities of the celebration.  Ah, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.  I am still taking it a day at a time and hoping for next year.

Thanks so much for taking the time to say such nice things about me.

I'll talk to you later, my friend.

Myrna
