HEIC to JPEG

Well, thank you Apple. *insert sarcastic face here*  Now my iPhone takes HEIC photos instead of JPG. Charming. They don't open in Photoshop. NOT charming. I also noticed that every photo is also now a .MOV -- what a waste of space! Also NOT charming. (Yes, I'm not happy.)

Now, besides ranting, I need to know how I’m going to convert all my current and future photos. I relied on CS6. I don't want to sign up for photoshop online thing. What's a person to do?

I did find a tutorial on creating a Quick Action in Automator. Looks fairly simple. I'd appreciate any thoughts on doing this. I'd also appreciate any tips on how I can convert--easily. Otherwise, I'm going to go back to using my reg. digital camera and forget the iPhone.

I'm not getting HEIC photos transferred, just jpgs. Have you played with settings on the iPhone? There is a transfer option to doing it "automatically" which means transferring the photo in a more compatible format rather than the original format. It's under the Camera settings. Might help. 

Other thought...try changing the file extension to .jpg and see if Preview will open it. Worth a shot.

You obviously have a newer phone than me! Here is some info about how to change the default behavior concerning HEIC. Hope that helps and calms your attitude a bit. Life is too short!

Also remember, your iPhone has a microphone! Do not talk disparagingly about it when it is on or close enough to hear you!

For already transferred HEIC images, you might just try opening them in Preview. It can convert many formats into several others, including HEIC. So it may be able to work the other way round.
