Chromium is "open source". That means almost anyone can create a browser and claim to be a version of Chromium. The problem is that you have no idea what changes might have been added or removed from the "official" version. I'm betting that any version that claims "added/improved security" has some malware in the code. Just don't use any Chromium version. Period.
Then, there are going to be hacked sites that trick you into installing something. Just say "NO"! Period. Only install apps from the dev's site and only after verifying that they are reputable. And block the domain for the site that wanted/required you to install anything.
Lastly, there are several reputable, secure, and efficient search engines out there. Use as many as you want, but do use them. They might even link you directly to TS!
