The local historical society (of which I am secretary and for which I am leading a major digitization project) has an old Quadra that can read old zip disks (SCSI connector, Mac formatted disks...so a bit stuck there) and NO monitor. Can't seem to find one - at least not one we can afford. So...wondering if anyone here has an old DB15 to VGA connector kicking around in a dusty corner somewhere? Happy to pay shipping and a small fee. The alternative is eBay and the shipping everyone is charging is just stupid.

You need DB15 on both ends/sides, correct?

I have a ~1 meter cable with a DB15 (with thumbscrew fasteners) on each end. Used it with a Mac mini video out to DB15 adaptor which won't be of use on the Quadra. All my other cables/connectors have some kind of (newer) Apple video out plugs. :wallbash:

More infor: The DB15 connectors may be called "SUB", they have 3 rows of 5 pins each. A "normal" VGA port can have 2 rows; 8 on the wide part of the metal "sleeve" and 7 on the narrow part. Not sure what the port on the Quadra looks like. :dntknw:

If it looks like the one at this "Mac Ports, past and present" link, my cable should work.

Otherwise, you may need one that look more like image on the right-hand side at this site.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Has to be DB15 on one end to VGA on the other - we have no DB15 (old Mac) monitor, which is why we need to attach a VGA monitor, which we do have.

So yeah - it's the second option, not the DB15 to DB15 cable. ;)

The thing that bugs me is that I used to have several of these darn things! But I've had absolutely no use for one for close to 20 years, so they got given away long ago.

One of these babies. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/HD15-VGA-Monitor-Female-to-DB15-MAC-Male-Converter-Adapter-w-Dip-Switches/271137033572?

Interesting - I went to the website for the seller (cablesonline.com) and while the shipping was the same, the item was cheaper! So I just bought it. Enough time has been spent looking for a cheap one. $9.99 for the adapter itself. Shipping to Canada...$12.99 All USD, of course, so add a third for the currency exchange.

Glad you found a solution!

Two types of DB15 is bad enough without also have to worry about male/female! My cable is male/male and the three row pin type. :wallbash:
