Where have all the hard drives gone?

Seems to be a dearth of 'new', HSGT 2 to 4 GB, 7200rpm, 64MB cache offerings.

Because Western Digital bought HGST and is no longer making HGST-branded drives? That said, there are some at NewEgg still - but they don't get very good reviews compared to the comparable WD and Seagates. For 3.5" internal drives, WD Black is still my recommendation. Though I must admit I'm not using big drives much any more, except for one or two drives over 4TB. Much prefer the portable options from Seagate (even have a 5TB model) and my real faves - the Samsung T5 SSDs. Of course, the latter aren't cheap - but now much cheaper than my first Samsung T3 was!

I think the drive maker(s) are now concentrating on larger sizes. Some claim they will achieve 40TB by 2025! There are still 4TB "HGST" brand drives around, they are simply expensive if "new". "New" can actually mean "built in 2012"! It's much easier to find refurbs, of course. :nono: Usually with 90 day instead of 3 year warranties. Most inexpensive seem to be 1TB 2.5in. I can live with 5400 rpm drives. these are just for backups and usually those are incremental.
