We still have good journalists here

An interesting story about a local worker. A view of real life from a 'little guy' perspective. One that I wish our "leaders" would see and understand.

The writer worked for the local newspaper until it was gutted by the owners of USAToday (aka, "Useless Today"). He now works for the local e-newspaper to which we have subscribed. I think this story, at least, is not behind the paywall.

Good story, Jim! My granddaughter used to live in Byhalia, but a few months ago she moved to Seattle.

I'm running low on toilet paper, so I check that aisle every day at Kroger. Alas, to no avail! But I can adjust. I grew up using old newspapers and outdated Sears catalogs in the outhouse. I am also running low on laundry detergent, and they can't seem to keep my brand in stock. My cleaning lady told me last week that she will soon need another canister of disinfecting wipes. Same story. Those shelves have been totally empty for days. There probably is no connection, but last time I was at Kroger I could not find any business-size (No. 10) mailing envelopes. I will try to find all these needed items at Walmart, but I hear their shelves are bare too.

Fellow TSer Frances Taylor (the Shetland pony lady in Scotland) says her local store, too, has run out of loo paper. It's a strange world we live in, isn't it?
I'm not a complete idiot -- a few parts are missing!

Here's where lots of that paper went!

The Kroger stores in our area have new hours: 7am till 9pm. "Seniors" (60 and older and anyone with certain health problems) can get in between 7 and 8am. Now, if I could just get up a couple of hours earlier... :blush-anim-cl:

We did place a 'pick-up' order at the nearest Kroger. Made the order last Thursday but could not schedule a pick up until 5pm Saturday! I don't think they need more employees, they just need more product on the selves. I also hope they keep the order-in-progress in a cooler! That's a long time to leave ice cream out of a freezer!

Only place I'm going now is the local, independent doughnut shop on Sunday mornings. I pick up my healthy apple fritter and a dozen doughnut holes to give to the guy who sells the local paper for $1. I'm sure he works through one of the local agencies as that edition is $2 everywhere else. I throw in the sweets and a couple of extra dollars. He also has a jacket I was wearing last winter... When it is really cold, I offer to get him some coffee from Mickey D's just across the street. But I have to make sure it has thirteen sugars! :eusa_dance: :yum:
