Found on a website for kitchen taps:

This website uses so called "Cookies"

Mind you, in my pedantic opinion, there should be a hyphen between "so" and "called"  :D

My inner pedant objects to the misuse of apostrophe's.

Quote from: A highly regraded English country gentleman
a website for kitchen taps
Sir, can you supply a 'murakin translation of the English term "kitchen taps".
Is that something a bugler plays as a "kitchen" is demolished before a renovation?
Is that what one uses after drilling a hole in a "kitchen" in preparation for inserting a screw or bolt?
Is that what one does when discovering a piece of mistletoe hanging in a "kitchen" doorway?
Is it something that might be found in the "kitchen" of a beer connoisseur?
Is it a type of shoe for dancing in a "kitchen".

I am also in need of a reminder of term "kitchen". I seem to remember my wife beinf asked about that room when the plans were being made for our house. She said the designer could do whatever he wanted, as the "kitchen" was only for resale value.

Ah yes, you're not keen on short words over there, are you? You call it a faucet; a word we use in the sense "Be careful with that screw - don't faucet..."

I do believe they're getting worse

I suppose I am an English gentleman in the sense that I live in the country of England but I am a native of Scotland. And the question is what grade am I now?

As for the apostrophe - Jon's mention reminded me of a much-loved columnist in the Daily Mail who, many years ago, set up the AAAA (Association for the Annihilation of the Aberrant Apostrophe).

Here's a good example of the late Keith Waterhouse's gentle humour, though he could also be quite cutting.

Ah yes, fawcetts! We have two kinds "over here'. One was a "silent" type and the other planned on studying micro biology. Both ended up in "show business" but had nothing to do with kitchens, as far as I can tell, so I remain confused, my 'native state'! :flail:

For those of a certain age who remember Farrah Fawcett and Lee Majors (they were briefly married). There is a new major for college students. They have to study ancient Egypt as well as plumbing. The discipline is for (drum roll, please): Pharaoh Faucet majors.
