how to update OS & Safari?
« on: August 29, 2020, 09:57:56 AM »
As a semi retired designer, I need to update my Macs OS somewhat, BUT because I use Adobe CS6 apps (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), I can't update to the latest version or those apps won't work.
For years I didn't want to mess with what's been working fine. I have a bunch of questions and will start with this one...
My 2012 MacBook Pro has OS 10.11.6 with Safari 11.1.2.
Can I update somehow to OS10.13 High Sierra?  I believe that is the latest version still safe to use CS6 apps.
And can I update to the latest version of Safari or older?
And where do I find those apps? I don't want to load something that presents problems. Please advise. Much thanks. :notworthy:

You can get the High Sierra installer at App Store by following the appropriate link here. Scroll down to find it. The appropriate App Store page will open.

The latest version of Safari for High Sierra should come along for the ride, but Software Update should notify you if something more recent was issued.

As always, you should make a complete backup before taking the plunge. Good luck!  :D

While there are issues reported with Photoshop and Lightroom CS 6 in Mojave, I've been running both successfully with no issues for ages now on my MacBook Pro. I do have a CC subscription on my iMac, and it runs the latest OS - and it is where I do most of my work, but I've left the laptop at Mojave for now. (both machines are new this year - it was an expensive year!)

Going forward, I'd have a good look at Affinity's Publisher as an InDesign replacement; it is what I am now using and quite like. I will likely continue with the CC photo subscription for now - though bought Capture One as a Lightroom replacement. I also have Affinity Photo, which does much of what Photoshop does. The problem as always, is finding the time to learn the new tools. I'm so used to the Lightroom/PS workflow...
