Myrna, if you wanted to do a search of past threads (and I'm not sure why you'd want to for this) you'd find a reply by yours truly explaining what GM was saying about quitting vs. closing a window. I admit that my advice came at an early stage of your Mac experience, and I may have said so at the time. But, you have sure picked up alot in a short time! (This is where Oprah is supposed to say, "You go girl!")  biggrin.gif

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

thanx.gif Ed,

If you would be so kind, would you send those books.

I will email you from my OE.  I have been meaning to

let some of my TS friends know what my new email

address is.

wacko.gif is what I have been with trying to get my new

ISP to work (of course, I didn't know what I was doing

and that was always the problem).

I will catch up with you via email.

Myrna

Hello Gregg,

Well, I have had no end of problems, considering I knew

nothing about computers.  Being with a new ISP and

getting used to a "new" computer and keyboard, well,

it was a bit much.

Frankly, because of my medical problems, I couldn't

retain information.  RHPConsult, Dick, suggested that the

first thing that I should do is to come to TS and print out

all the replies from threads that either had links to help

me learn; or explanations of how to fix problems.

That's why I have been doing the printing .

I keep getting these PostScript errors and IE errors that

I think that I have fixed, but somehow, are not.

I have to try to fix some other stuff too.

Thanks for being here, I do appreciate it.

About your question on backing up to floppies.

A floppy disc only holds 1.44 MB of files which is not much. It would probably be OK to backup such things as your mail, some downloaded files you may want to keep or text files you create. Some smaller pictures could fit as well. Floppies are very cheap but inefficient and potentially unreliable for storing a lot of things. Anything larger than 1.44 MB would have to be put on another type of disc or drive. A "zip" drive uses discs that hold 100 or 250 MB which you eventually might want to buy. You would also have to get a USB PCI card for the zip drive to connect to the Mac. There are SCSI zip drives that would connect to the SCSI port you do have on the 4400 but those drives are not that easy to find these days and are more of a pain to use than USB ones.

Someday down the road you may even want to get an external drive to which you can copy all sorts of things, including your entire hard drive. In fact it may actually be more cost effective to invest in one of those instead of a zip drive. But unless you have large items to save at this point, the floppy drive will do for now.

If you should go to a store like Office Max to get floppies, look for ones that are "preformatted for Mac" to save you trouble. If you can't find any that say that, get the regular PC ones and we'll explain how to reformat them to use in your Mac.

smile.gif  Hello krissel,

Alright, I'll bite.  What is this about an external hard

drive and what are the best types to use with a

4400/200?

If I get up over the hill today, Myrna, they'll be on their way; otherwise, it'll be Monday before I get 'em out of here.  I hope they'll answer some questions for you.

thanx.gif Ed,

I have been wallbash.gif  attempting to straighten out some

IE problems for two (count'em)two days now.

If you read this thread you know what started this.  I have so

many duplicates on my System.  I had no fewer than four copies

of IE.  I didn't have any listing for the active version on the Apple

Menu.  I have no preferences to reference and wouldn't know

what was supposed to go into preferences for IE.

I think the devil made me do it. LOL, but I now have two IE

icons on my DeskTop.  One has a date of 1995-2000, and the

other has a date of 1995-2001.  I kept them both, as they seem

to have all of our favorites and other information.

In other words   Thinking.gif I am totally confused.

OE is now up and functioning, properly, that is.

I am declaring a moratorium on the IE debacle.

Again  thanx.gif

Myrna

I think the best solution for this is follows. First, head to the IE Download page, and download the latest version of IE. When it's finished downloading, quit all applications, and put every IE folder into the trash. Don't worry about the favorites, those will be saved in the preferences. Now, open up the disk image whihc was just downloaded, and follow the install instructions. Try out the new IE, and empty the trash to get rid of all the extra copies.

Hope this helps.
