Smart plugs & smart bulbs
« on: May 28, 2021, 01:13:56 PM »
Do any of you have either smart plugs or smart bulbs in your home? If so what do you have, and most important — are you pleased?

My desire is to be able to use either Siri or a phone app to turn off the last living room light when I go to bed, or even turn it on when I’m away from home and it’s dark. Plus one in my bedroom would allow me to turn the light on and off at night. One in each of the extra bedrooms, and one in my reading area would allow me to change lights in random patterns.

I don’t think I want to go the whole Apple HomeKit route, but I’m considering getting some Wemo smart plugs (link below) that I can work with Siri, or just the app on my iPhone. I figure 5 plugs will fit my needs; or I could get 6 and set up the coffee pot the night before and have it ready when I get up—no more waiting 5 minutes. HAHA

Opinions? Comments? Suggestions? Thanks!

I don't like having things around that are smarter than I am! :yahoo:
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system
CAUTION! Childhood vaccinations cause adults!

Watching a Netfilx movie last night and had to laugh out loud as character clapped twice to turn out the lights! Those 'clapper' devices were a lot less expensive!! [cynical]The thing about "smart" devices today is that the makers are smart enough to get us to part with more money![/cynical] :laughhard:

So, how are you doing in your search to automate your life?! Just for future info, of course... :blush-anim-cl:

My aunt gave us one of those as a Christmas gift. We discovered that if all of us got to laughing at just the right tone, it turned the clapper on and off. That made us all laugh even more, and so we spent an enjoyable evening clicking the Christmas lights on and off -- much to the displeasure of my aunt who didn't get it.  :dntknw:

As to smart plugs, after a ton of research, and talking with other folks who actually do have smart plugs in their homes (plus they are iPhone users), I'm going with the Wemo's that I linked to in my original post. I'm away from home until next week, but when I get home and get things set up, I'll let you know how things are working.
