Big Mistake - HUGE!!!!
« on: August 11, 2003, 01:07:25 PM »
OK, here's the story:-

Once upon a time ...

... there was (still is) a MAJOR Radio Station in the UK with a very active group of discussion forums.

There were many contributors, world-wide, all of whom managed to cope with many access problems.

They stayed loyal, despite the problems until, one day, something happened 'on air' at the Radio Station which caused a great deal of upset amongst the listeners.

This resulted in a few members voicing their opinion on the forums.
Consequently, the Radio Station took offence and pulled-the-plug without notice, thus leaving many friends stranded.

One aspiring member has now created an "Exiled" site and has e.mailed those who he'd previously made contact with asking for help in 'spreading the word'.

I am one of those people and have all the original forums' messages from the last 26 months.

In OE, every contribution in the forums has the option to "add to address book" and I have tried to create a list of contributors by "adding" to my OE Address Book.

Before doing this, to avoid causing havoc amongst my existing entries, I created a "new group" named "Main Addresses" into which I dragged the original addresses.
I then did a 'select all' of the originals and deleted them believing that they were saved in the new "Group"..

With my Address Book now "empty", I then used the OE function "add to address book".

Now, I find that, although I've placed 974 new addresses into my Address Book, my new "Main Addresses" group contains only one address which I cannot view.

If this makes sense, can anyone help me? Have I destroyed my original address book?

Regards

David L.

While I'm not entirely clear on what you have done, I can tell you that the first repair operation which always comes up with OE is to rebuild the database:

1. Quit OE

2. Hold down the option key & restart OE

3. Keep holding the option key until you are asked if you want to rebuild. Say yes & be prepared to wait for a while.

I'd suggest you give it a go.
