Big Sur Update slower than snail!

I'm about to Shutdown my Mac as it can't get past "About 15 minutes remaining" in the Preparing function. I suspect the real problem is Spotlight; I deleted hundreds of files today. Quit/re-opened System Prefs, it now says 'only' 10 minutes remaining. :wallbash:

Finally updated this morning while I ate breakfast. I think watching a progress bar always slows them down...
