Sonoma on older Macs
« on: October 03, 2023, 08:10:28 AM »
According to macOS Sonoma can be installed on 83 unsupported Macs with this tool I can use Sonoma on my (now obsolete) iMac. I'm sure that I won't do it because I can't assume that it will cause more trouble than it's worth. Comments?

I used a patcher years ago to run a non-supported MacOS on an older MBP and it worked well except for the fact that it could not run any new security updates without totally reinstalling from scratch.

I don't know if this patcher has the same limitation but of course there are features that will not work due to the limitations of the hardware on older Macs. I would try it on a Mac that is not necessarily my main machine so if things go belly-up then no big deal. Of course a full backup would be my first move.

Fortunately on my 2017 Macbook Air it doesn't work, but on my ipad it does, and im my opinion all of these tweaks, updates are just gimmicks, aren't they?

Here's a reason (maybe) to update the OS: I subscribe to MS Office 365 and the latest update to those apps requires OS 12 or later. This is not a big deal to me because I only use MS Word and it does what I want. Still, this is annoying.

I could complain about both MS and Apple but MS is the more obvious target. Apple users LOVE to bash MS. It's what we live for.   :D
