Problem with Classic
« on: August 11, 2003, 08:06:02 PM »
I had been using my old OS 9.2.2 for classic. However, when I invoke classic, OS 9.2.2 is absent. The only choice I have is OS 9.1 which is part of DiskWarrior 3 whoise folder I have on disk.

I cannot figure how I lost OS 9.2.2 as my classic. OS 9.2.2 is an option for startup on the Startup Panel.

The issue is this: I have an address database that I built for use with Avery's MacLabel Pro. I could not figure out how to import this database (text with tab delimiters for the fields) into DesktopLabels deluxe for OS X. So I turned to MacLabel pro which opened in OS 9.1 (Classic). I tried to print the labels from MacLabel Pro but wqas rejected since I did not have a printer selected in OS 9.1. When I went to 9.1 Apple menu, there was no chooser so I could not setup the printer fro 9.1!

'Tis a puzzlement. How do I get my OS 9.2.2 to be recognized as classic or even better, how do I import my old database into DesktopLabels database format?

Thanks for any help,

MamaMoose

Can you not select the 9.2.2 folder/ partition using the "Classic" Preference panel in OS X?

You should have a choise as to which OS 9 to use for 'classic'...

kps,

My OS 9.2.2 does not show up in the preference panel! (It does show up in the startup panel). I tried to delete the two versions of OS 9.1 that I have but system won't allow mw. I think that is the problem. I transferred DiskWarrior with it system folder (Os 9.1) to my desktop and I think that is what is causing the problem as somehow OS 9.1 is dominating. However, I cannot remove DW 3 ssystem folder - OS X won;t let me!

How do I kills DW 3 totally?

Wait-a-minute, wait-a-minute!

I thought "we" both had our Classics on separate partitions?

You have another "nine" (9.1.1)  somewhere, in addition to the Classic you installed from a disk? Or, did your G4 not come equipped with separate OS disks for X and its accompanying Classic?

I just checked my Classic partition and it's 9.2.2, as "advertised". Where'd your 9.1.1  come from?

Then, there's the LARGER QUESTION  dry.gif , how do you ever get Avery MacLabel Pro to work with anything later than 8.6???

It was,  arguably, the best label app for the Mac ever devised IMHO, and yet I've been unable to get it to work comprehensively even in 8.6, less so in 9-something. (Sob) verysad.gif  Just what version do you have, MamaM?

Avery/Dennison has, I would guess, just about the poorest tech support for Mac, this side of . . . harhar.gif

Finally, is it windy over there tonight? The winds are blowing like krazy here this evening. WOW.gif

Well I solved my problem: I stupidly copied my DiskWarrior 3 CD onto my hard drive not realizing it had OS 9.1 as part of its software. So, OS 9.1 dominated. What I did was trash the DW 3 folder and lo and behold OS 9.2.2 showed up as the classic OS.

I have MacLabel Pro 1.74 for the Mac. If you cannot find it, I will send you a copy as I do not think Avery makes it any more. Check their web page. It worked like a charm with OS 9.2.2 and I printed labels. DesktopLabels Pro X was very confusing to use especially importing a database. When i tried to get tech support, I found the writers were in Kazakastan or Uzbeckistan, etc.!!
