I have been attempting to solve a printer problem and while doing so, I made an error. The printer to which I am referring is a Personal LaserWriter 320, which is a PostScript Printer.
What I wanted to do was to stop the startup page from printing.
I was reading an item on how to "squelch" the printer's first page at startup. Pogue gave directions on how to open the Utility Program for the printer. What I didn't realize was my program is the old program called LaserWriter Software Program, not the Apple Printer Software Program to which he referred. Of course, there was no startup page to change either. I could not get out of the program which showed the Printer LaserWriter &. The Alert Messages indicated that I needed to either Save, Cancel or Don't Save.
When I tried to Cancel I wound up with an error message -8940.
Somehow, I wound up creating a new printer- then it froze. I had to shutdown and restart.
This happened last night. When I tried to print the explanation for not printing was that my printer couldn't be found.
This morning, I did another select from Chooser and my printer is printing again. However, I have another printer icon on my DeskTop. They are both Personal LaserWriter 320, but one is a default. I printed out a complete topic using the active DeskTop Printer, but I got an alert about a PostScript Error. ( One may have nothing to do with the other).
The question is: How do you get rid of extra printers?
I am confused enough about how things work without adding to the confusion. Do I need to have this "Default" printer on the DeskTop?
for any light you can shed on this matter.
