I give up! There seems no way that Carbon Copy Cloner is going to work in cloning from my G4 Dual 1 GHz to my Ti laptop via FireWire Target Disk Mode. CCC just hangs. I think the creator of CCC has poineted out that CCC does not work well with FireWire drives. Since I am using FireWire Target Disk mode to to get the laptop HD on the big G4 desktop, it sees the Ti laptop as a FW drive.
Also, I can't get out of FW Disk mode or shut down CCC with Force Quit. When I finally did succeed in getting my Main G4 desktop back, my Ti laptop would not boot! It starts and then brings up a screen in several languages that says:
"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the start key for a few seconds or press the Restart button."
I did the former and after the chime, the same message occurs. I repeated the procedure several times.I then tried resetting the PRAM but after the first chime the smae message abobe appeared. I then booted up holding down the option key and saw the laptops HD icon but when I selected it, I got a garbled screen.
I next booted up with my original OS 10.2.0 using the "C" key and then repaired permissions. I could not verify or repair the laptop's hard drive because it said it could not unmount it! This implies when I booted with the install disk, its system did NOT control the laptop. Rather, the laptop's system booted in the presence of the OS 10.2.0 CD.
So now I am stuck. I need to copy all that my Main G4 contains onto my laptop, someway. But given OS X's complexity especially how it stores pieces of apps in various locations, I jsut do not know how to do this and get everything that I need. I tried to CCC just the users folder but that missed a bunch of critical stuff.
Does anyone have any ideas how to do this so I get everything onto the laptop?
Thanks,
MamaMoose
