iPhoto - Problem with albums
« on: August 25, 2003, 12:23:21 PM »
Does anyone know if there's a way of putting one album inside another with iPhoto 2?  My problem is this:

I have dozens (hundreds?) of holiday photos.  In my non-iPhoto album, I organise them like this:
Main folder - Holidays
Inside 'Holidays' - A separate folder for each holiday, eg: 'France 2002'
Inside each separate holiday - A separate folder for each town.
Inside each town folder, relevant photos.

Thus if I want to see the magnificent (out of focus!) shot I took of my wife on the Eiffel Tower, I go:

Holidays > France 2002 > Paris . and then to the appropriate shot.

It seems with iphoto 2, I would have to have a separate album for each town to organise similarly.   This results in dozens and dozens of albums, which is darned inconvenient.

I would like to put one album in another, just like I do with folders, but can't seem to do it.

Is there a way?  sad.gif

I quote from "iPhoto 2, The Missing Manual" (Pogue).  The problem is that it combines album pictures but doesn't keep them separated in sub-albums.

"Suppose you have three photo albums that contain photos from {3}  different trips to the beach. ... You'd like to merge them into a single album called Beach Trips 2003.  That's no problem in iPhoto 2.

Select all three albums in the album pane (command-click each,  for example}.  Now create a new fourth album ...;  select all of the visible thumbnails and drag them into the new album."

This may not be exactly what you want to do but it  is the only book section dealing with album combination.  I hope it helps.

Thanks Margie.   Pogue's suggestion doesn't really help (I've got The Missing Manual, by the way).  Problem with his method is that one would finish up with a massive album with no sensible divisions.  I guess I'll just have to put up with a mile-long album list.   If there's ever an iPhoto3 I hope the gurus address the matter.

Another little thing I'd like to see in iPhoto2 is the ability to show titles in a slideshow.  Still, I suppose we're lucky enough to have iPhoto anyway, even with it's minor drawbacks.

Bye for now.

Pascalin  Many thanks for your tip.  I've downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and tho' it's not quite as slick as folders in folders, it will certainly solve my main problem.   As I'm off again on what promises to be an intersting cruise (Lisbon, Athens, Istanbul, Yalta & Odessa) I certainly didn't want all the shots in one "Cruise" album, nor did I really want an extra half-dozen albums.  Thanks again and congratulations on sourcing the site  clap.gif

I cannot locate a place in iPhoto where I would be given the option of cleaning up a photo..only the buttons available and red eye, but I have one photo that came in email that is dark and blurry, and I would like to clean it up. Any suggestions ? huh.gif  huh.gif  huh.gif
