You guys have been very helpful in the past, so here's another one for you. I am using OS 10.2.6 on an iBook. I can download RealAudio files, QuickTime, PDF and some image files, however, nothing else.

No app files from any location (Mac Central, Version Tracker, MacUpdate, etc). I have a DSL line which is working smoothly.  I use Safari, EI, and Opera. it doesn't matter which browser I use. Same result. Ideas?

When you DL from Safari (for example) what happens? Does the Dl begin and end, but there is no there there? Are there alert or error messages? Also, when you open Safari's Preferences/General tab, what do you have in the drop down menu following the line: "Save Downloaded files to..."

The download attempts to start. In other words, in VersionTracker, it goes to the description page, I hit download and the URL starts to load and it stops. The page refreshes and the action starts again. This continues, repeating over and over until I hit the back button. There is no error message. There's nothing in the "Download" window either.
The Safari Prefs are set to download to a folder on the desktop labeled "Downloads" as they have been.
 Thinking.gif They just never get to the download window.

I'm kind of killing two birds with one stone here.
I installed an airport card in this machine a while ago.
After visiting TS and catching your thread, started thinking if I've ever tried using airport for downloads.

So. I copied what you wrote on what and where.
Difference is I'm dial up.
Went to VersionTracker with Safari/10.2.6 and found a small freeware.
I have my download destinations assigned to a folder called D/L=downloads also.
Worked without a hitch the first time. Just to make sure, I d/ld a second time with no problem.
Took a screenshot.

Come back and saw Kelly's link to what I was going to post plus the thought of trying without airport.
So I shut her down and did the download by way of internal modem.
No problem here.

You checked all the usual stuff like system preference >internet>webtab for assigned d/ld and Safaris prefs I'm sure or those others that you can download wouldn't be there.

Hope I helped some way any-who.

Anyways, gotta catch some zzzzzzz.

I've tried about everything you guys suggested. At one time I was able to download anything. Then for some reason it decided to stop. Yes, I can download from the modem, but what's the point of Airport if whenever I want to download something I have to go to the modem to get it done?

I will do some work on the Apple Troubleshooting Outline. It will take some time to get it done. I'll return with an answer one way or another.
