RAM Question for PowerBook
« on: September 03, 2003, 09:47:11 AM »
Thinking.gif Has anyone tried this?

This is what I found at one memory store.

256MB DDR 2100 SO-DIMM FOR POWERBOOK G4 12 inch

256MB DDR 2700 SO-DIMM FOR POWERBOOK G4 17 inch

I already have a DDR 2700 SO-DIMM, so if it works, I'm set!

Thanks!

Zodraz- According to This Site it only accepts PC2100 RAM.

As my understanding goes (don't put money on it wink.gif) PC2700 is just a faster type of RAM, so it should work.

Kelly would know- I think- Knows everything else about Macs

Peace,
Peter

That's not true Peter. smile.gif

Have fun at school.

Z. I always check OWC first.

Go to Memory and check for your specific machine.

They'll show you the options.

For that 12" they show both types of RAM.

Since Peter is referring to my website, I'd like to clarify that the specs there are Apple's official specs.
However, that does not mean that different types of RAM won't work.
Just like a G4 tower with 133 MHz RAM takes 100 MHz RAM, too.

RAM Question for PowerBook

OK,

Last night I installed the new RAM, according to the Apple instructions. Easy.

Booted it up and checked the "About this Mac".

Memory now is 384 MB! The computer seemed to be running just fine.

BUT this morning my daughter left me a note saying her iChat was freaking out.

Well, since she was still asleep by the time I had to leave for work I couldn't quiz her.

Was she loosing her modem connection, or was iChat freezing?

We'll see tonight when I get back home.

If nothing else, I can swap the  memory back and see if that fixes the problem.

Oh yes, the memory I bought was from Best Buy last weekend. It's K-Byte RAM (new). With the $20 rebate it cost $30. A very good price for 256 MB.

Stay tuned!

Daughter was out all evening visting freinds before school starts. So no info from her!

I did install office X and ran all the updaters.

Connected to my ISP and ran Safari.

No problems, no hangs. Flawless.

I doubt it's the RAM.

FYI. MS Office X is wicked fast! Even faster on my DP 1.25GH at work - I swear it's running before my finger releases from the second "click"!

PPS. Office prints superfast to my ancient Apple Personal LaserWriter NTR. Much faster that my OS 9. (I have the printer networked with an ancient Dayna EtherPrint box Coaxial through a Coaxe to 10BaseT converter through a Siemans 10 port 'switch!)

Final Report:

Ran TechTool Deluxe (came with AppleCare CD) and found it no problems with the RAM.

Past few days my daughters had no complaints about iChat.

I say the new RAM is doing OK. (I'll keep the original 128 MB chip for insurance though).
