How does one view email headers?

We've spent two days of "Returned mail-Undeliverable" at the office and on each of our personal accounts.

Got one today from XXX@ouroffice.com to XX2@ouroffice.com and we KNOW it ain't.  But.....I can't figure out how to display the headers so I can maybe track down the infected computer.

Time for the litany "If you insist upon using Windows for internet surfing and email, KEEP YOUR ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE UPDATED and install the *&%#$ Windows updates.

So far, 15 to each address at the office, twice a day, and since I get the email for those without computers, guess how  wallbash.gif  I am.

Jennie, I don't have my XP machine on right now (sitting on a chair in the dining room... tongue.gif ) but on my Win98 with OE, you look under File->Properties->Details.

But then, just to be sure, I had a look online for Outlook directions, and wouldn't you know...it's different. wacko.gif

Hi Jen,

I was all set to answer you here this afternoon and wouldn't ya know, swamped with phone calls and thousands of bounced e-mails..*wry grin.

So, you now have the directions to get full header info...the only thing left for me to offer is blocking.

I'm so disgusted with these viruses that I've started blocking them with the routing table. I tried just denying their email but the poor server still has to talk to them long enough to deny.

Send me the headers once you uncover them. Copy/paste them in new e-mails so that I can see them clearly and from this I can determine the IP of origin. That is what I'll block. I've wasted many hours trying to track down the actual identity of these machines/owners. I figure now that if it's someone with more than a coincidental e-mail address in their files somewhere, they'll call me when they find that they can't get to a website on this server. Then I'll know who they are..*grin...or better yet, they'll call you...*big grin

I've been blocking quite a few lately and haven't heard any "screams" yet. I'm in blocking mode...send all ya want.

see ya,
Diana

Thank you Diana!  Tis almost enough to drive one batty.

If I can get into HOATT's computer, I'll see what I can do about the headers now that Paddy led me to the instructions.  Thank YOU P.

Since HOATT is out of commission for a couple of weeks, it falls to me.  Hip surgery went well, but you know him, any excuse to stay in the "big city".

Hey..smile.gif

There isn't any hurry 'cause today is the day that SoBig.F is supposed to expire. I still don't mind blocking individual machines though since any that are currently infected are pretty obviously owned by the clueless so the chances of them being infected by the next version are pretty darned good.

The battle may be over but the war is still on.. police.gif

see ya

PS.say hi to Shrader for us. I didn't know he was having hip surgery
