"Adventures in Adobe"
« on: September 17, 2003, 10:19:52 AM »
Hello All,

Does anyone know what verion of Adobe Reader is the correct version to download for my system? I went to the Adobe site but I don't understand the differences between versions ie. "monolithic", MacBinary and etc..
I am running:
PowerPC 4400/200
Mac OS 8.6
Internet Explorer 5.1.7
Outlook Express 5.0.6

Are there any other plug-ins that I should have for Internet Explorer or Outlook Express?

Hi MrsLop:

go to this page:To download the proper reader

And in step 1 of 2, select (Mac 8.1 - 8.5) or (Mac 8.6 - 9.0), depending on what system platform your using (if memory serves you're using 8.6 and need Acrobat Reader 5.05; OS 8.1 - 8.5 will need Acrobat Reader 4.05) from the Platform drop down menu.

Set the connection speed and language the same way.  When you select the connection speed the browser will show you the step 2 of 2 section and all you have to do is click the Download button.

You should get a compressed file with a .bin file extension downloaded to your disk and it should automatically unstuff itself using stuffit's expander.  If it doesn't unstuff itself, then do it manually with the expander.

Good luck

From this page: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html you can simply select your language, OS version, and internet connection method. It will then provide you with a download button which will download exactly what you need.

EDIT: Looks like I was beat to the punch smile.gif

I get confused pretty easily these days and I just couldn't figure it out by myself.

smile.gif Hello giantmike,

It isn't often that anyone beats you to a reply! Thank you for the helpful reply. What a bewildering array of stuff to choose from on that site. I have to admit that argueably the worst is the Apple Site for tooling around and figuring out where things are.

How have you been?
