G5 great - but having problems with settings!!
« on: September 14, 2003, 10:18:07 PM »
Great computer - so far, after day 2, no major problems, except.....transferred everything over from my G4 and have had to do some minor work with settings, but I know that Image Capture opened automatically with my Epson scanner (now that Smart Panel no longer works with OSX!!!) and even though I have checked the appropriate boxes in Image Capture to NOT open automatically with a camera or card, but to open automatically when a scanner button is pushed, NikonView still comes up, the same way it does with my camera!.  How do I get Image Capture to open instead of NikonView??? sad.gif

This problem was reported at Macfixit today.

QUOTE
While we have not received too many troubleshooting reports regarding Mac OS X 10.2.7 - currently shipping on the Power Macintosh G5 and other newer models - MacFixIt reader Leslie Weinberg notes a potential conflict with the NikonView digital camera software:

"When a Nikon Coolpix camera is attached to the computer, and NikonView automatically beings lunaching, it will not bring up the transfer window, and when you bring that up manually, the transfer button is grayed out. [...] In addition, Image Capture, programmed to open when a scanner button is pushed, no longer opens - NikonView comes up instead, just as it does for the camera.

Same situation...unless you are Leslie.... wacko.gif  smile.gif

I was on the phone with tech support at Nikon for almost an hour.  The guy finally decided it had to be the system itself, and not Nikon software.  You have to realize that 10.2.7 is new, and you would need to have someone using this system and also using NikonView to reproduce the problem.  However, among other quirks - some games which played directly from the HD now demand a "CD check" before playing, alert sounds on Eudora are gone,  Retrospect periodically decides to do an immediate execution at oddball times when it is scheduled to do an automated duplicate at set times.  I'm also finding other little peculiarities as well.
