Installing Os9 after OsX?
« on: September 20, 2003, 06:31:57 AM »
Hi people,

It seems i got tottaly wrong thinking that i could always install Os9 after OsX already was on the disk.
I tried it a few days before (cause i wanted to play SimCity 2000) and it said it can't install on my hard drive cause another system folder is already there.
It asked me to do a clean install... and i don't want that, lol.

But than i got thinking, maybe a "clean" install doesn't mean whiping the drive? but installing an altarnative system folder.
I know this was possible on Os9, and then the older folder got moved to a folder named "older system" or somthing?
Anyway, i come to think that i want to have Classic back (for SimCity 3000) but now i'm not sure if i am able to install it again?

Any hints or answers on this one?
Thanks

M_B. Are you saying you already have "System Folder" on your Drive? smile.gif

What's in it?

It's running OsX, but i wanted to install Os9 now, but it doesn't allow me to do that.
It seems Os9 needs to be installed before OsX?

That's not true. smile.gif

Did you Format the drive with the OS 9. Driver checked?

If you did then just choose the Clean Install option in OS 9.x Install.

If you didn't. Then you'll need to reformat. huh.gif

But.... a clean install would whipe everything on my drive? not? sad.gif
I do checked that "Os9 driver" button i think... actually, i can see the harddrive when starting up from Os9 boot CD... so that's good huh?
I'm abit confused about the "clean" install now?
I do NOT want reinstall my OsX here.

No M_B. A Clean Install won't wipe the Drive. smile.gif

You didn't answer the question though.

Do you have a System Folder already on your Drive?

Do you see it when you click on your Hard Drive Icon?

If so. What's in it? smile.gif

Thanks Kelly...

But, ok... i did answered those questions blush-anim-cl.gif
(getting seriously confused now tongue.gif)

That drive does have OsX on it, and works like a charm.
And when i boot up from Os9 drive, i can see everything on that drive without a problem smile.gif
There's no single problem on that OsX system but i just wanted to add Os9 again now.
But, than i got that message that i had to perform a clean install, and i thought clean installation was same as wiping the drive biggrin.gif

But ok, it seems it isn't, so that was my mistake. doh.gif
Been to long since i changed to OsX i guess... hehehe wink.gif

Thanks again smile.gif

Well Mr. Confused. smile.gif

I'm asking "Do you have a System Folder already on your Drive?"

You haven't said yes or no.

The Folder named System at the Root Level is for OS X.

The Folder whose exact name is System Folder is OS 9.x

If the Install Disk detected it and it's there, what's in it?

Clear as mud?

That's what we say over here. smile.gif

Aaaah, now i'm getting it oops.gif
Well, there's only the folder "system" and no "system folder".
Sorry for the late reaction also, got  a bit tied up wink.gif
Thanks, i will do the "clean" install and it should all work out than.
